The mission of the Kairos Prison Ministry is to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women and youth, as well as their families, to become loving and productive citizens of their communities.

Who We Are - Where & When We Meet

  • We are Valley Kairos Advisory Council
  • We serve Valley State Prison, Chowchilla
  • Where we meet varies but most often is at one of two locations (1) First Baptist Church Clovis, 2080 Tollhouse Road, Clovis, CA 93611; (2) 6555 E. Olive, Clovis, CA 93727
  • Our meeting dates and times vary: During months with Weekend Retreat training, it typically begins at 5:00 p.m. on the Saturdays of the first and last Team Formation Days. (2) During other months it typically begins at 6:30 p.m. on a Tuesday evening that presents minimal time-conflicts for Council members. Kairos-VSP maintains and regularly distributes our Kalendar that identifies all events for the year, re-drafted and distributed to team members when changes occur.

The Kairos Inside Ministry is a Christian faith based ministry which addresses the spiritual needs of incarcerated men, women, youth and, their families. By sharing the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ, Kairos hopes to change hearts, transform lives and impact the world. As a ministry, Kairos embraces a diverse group of volunteers working together to fulfill Christ's call to action in Matthew 25:36.

The Advisory Council of Kairos-VSP oversees the ministry of Kairos to the incarcerated at Valley State Prison in Chowchilla, California.

  • It supports the Weekend Leader and the Team conducting Team Formation Days, Weekend Retreats, and Instructional Reunions at VSP twice yearly.

  • It supports the Team members conducting monthly Reunions of Kairos alumni and prospective candidates at VSP eight times a year.
  • It oversees the recruitment and orientation of new Kairos team members.
  • A few of its members meet monthly with the Inside Team at VSP, to encourage the inside leaders and to monitor and advise their planning of the monthly Reunions.
  • Its Chairman and/or Institutional Liaison stay in communication with VSP's sponsor Chaplain by email and, at the various events, by face-to-face meetings.
  • One member meets quarterly with VSP's Volunteer Advisory Committee to maintain communication with VSP's senior management and the Community Volunteer Coordinator, become better informed of its programs and requirements, and share needs and concerns.
  • It keeps abreast of and disseminates information regarding activities of the State and International Kairos organizations.
  • It conducts business as needed to insure orderliness, keep records, raise money, oversee finances, etc. Interested? Here are the next steps...

Get Involved

We need your help.  There are many opportunities for you to serve in this ministry. All we ask is that you have a willing heart and a spirit of obedience and you can play a crucial role in God's ministry of Changing Hearts, Transforming Lives and Impacting the World.  Here's some basic information to help you "get involved."

Kairos Inside at Valley State Prison

Kairos Inside is composed of well-organized and well-trained volunteer teams of men and women from the communities surrounding an institution present an introductory 3-day weekend, described as a short course in Christianity. This inter-denominational team of volunteers - both clergy and laypersons - works in cooperation with the Chaplain who carefully selects up to 42 inmate leaders to attend. Well organized follow-up is part of this program.

Be a Team Member

Kairos volunteers come from all walks and strata of life. They all share a desire to follow Christ's admonition of Matthew 25:36, "I was in prison and you visited me."  If you feel God's call to minister to the incarcerated, the female family member of someone incarcerated, as a part of a Kairos team.  Not all team members serve inside correctional institutions. 

Be a Support Volunteer

Each Kairos retreat weekend has opportunities for outside support, such as baking cookies, writing letters of support, or preparing meals.  Get your church's Sunday school classes to color placemats for mealtime in prison.

Kairos is an ECFA Accredited Ministry

Kairos Prison Ministry International is ECFA Accredited. ECFA enhances trust in Christ-centered churches and ministries by establishing and applying ECFA's Seven Standards of Responsible Stewardship to accredited organizations.
